How to visit the Sergei Dovlatov Museum-Apartment

Apartment 34 at 23 Rubinstein Street is lived in: there is no way in from the street, admission is by booking only. Below are the hours, address, metro and meeting points by format. Booking takes two minutes: tours need no prepayment, theatre evenings are paid online.

A museum usually begins where life has ended. Here the water is still running behind the wall — which is why people come as guests to a home, not to an institution.

  • Museum tour — at the Dovlatov monument next to No. 23.
  • The play «What have I earned?», the immersive tour «No goodbyes — call me!» and «Dovlatov’s Communal Salon» — at the Dovlatov monument in front of 23 Rubinstein Street.
  • «Catch Dovlatov If You Can» — we gather at the Dovlatov monument in front of No. 23; the walking performance begins in the stairwell, where the house committee chairman gathers the residents.

  • Literary dinner and private visit — at the Dovlatov monument next to the building.

Do you write about St Petersburg? Come and visit

If you tell people about the city — in a blog, a channel, a podcast or a column — we will give a tour for you and your companions free of charge: the museum tour of apartment 34 or the grand walk through three communal flats.

We have one request, and we state it up front: tell your audience about the museum. What and how to write is entirely your decision: we do not interfere with other people’s texts, and we do not bargain for ratings or links.

Write a few words about yourself and your platform to hello@dovlatovmuseum.ru — we will agree on a date.

Frequently asked questions about visiting

Is this the same Dovlatov museum as the one in Pushkinskiye Gory?
No, they are different museums. At 23 Rubinstein Street is museum-apartment 34, a genuine lived-in communal flat where Dovlatov lived from 1944 to 1975. The house-museum in Berezino near Pushkinskiye Gory covers the «Pushkin Hills» period and is a separate trip, roughly 400 km away. If you are in St Petersburg, this is the one for you; a detailed comparison of the two museums is in the guide «Dovlatov Museums».
How do I get to the Dovlatov Museum?
23 Rubinstein Street, St Petersburg. The nearest metro stations are Dostoevskaya and Vladimirskaya, about five minutes on foot; Mayakovskaya and Zvenigorodskaya are roughly twice as far. If you are walking along Nevsky Prospekt, Rubinstein Street begins right off it.
What are the Dovlatov Museum’s opening hours?
Daily from 11:00 to 19:30, seven days a week, by prior booking only. The museum tour runs every day at 11:00; from 1 September 2026 a 16:30 slot is added. The evening formats — the play, the immersive tour, the dinner — are scheduled on separate dates.
Where is the meeting point?
It depends on the format. The museum tour meets at the Dovlatov monument by 23 Rubinstein Street. The play and the immersive tour meet there too, at the monument. The extended tour «Secrets of Leningrad Communal Apartments» starts from Zvenigorodskaya metro station. The exact meeting point is sent with your booking confirmation.
Is there a toilet and a cloakroom at the museum?
There is no toilet for guests — this is a lived-in flat, not a museum building. In cold weather, coats are left in the hallway. Bear this in mind when planning your visit, especially with children.
Can I take photographs in the museum?
Yes — in the museum rooms and the shared corridor you can and should. In the neighbours’ rooms you cannot: people live there, and it is their home. The guide will show you where the line is.
