Promenade play · based on «Ours» Rare findone performance a season

A play based on «Ours» in the flat where Dovlatov lived from 1944 to 1975. The chairman of the house committee gathers a group of citizens and leads them up to the third floor — to the flat of a parasite and brawler. The neighbour cooks soup, the main figure is the writer’s mother, and Dovlatov himself never turns up. Directed by Alexander Savchuk. You are the responsible tenants.

The play is based on «Ours» and on memoirs about the writer. It premiered at the «D Day» festival in August 2025: a full house, with more tickets sold than the room holds. In the autumn of 2025 it was played at the museum three more times — on 18 and 25 October and 15 November. It starts at the front entrance of 23 Rubinstein Street. The chairman of the house committee assembles the «responsible tenants» — a role that goes to the guests — and leads them up the stairs to the third floor: to get into the flat of citizen Dovlatov.

The central figure here is not the writer but his mother, Nora Sergeyevna. Tikhomirov the neighbour is busy with soup in the communal kitchen. The search is led by Major Vladlen Alekseyevich, who is also the chairman of the house committee; the guests search alongside him, talk to the tenants and go into the rooms. Dovlatov himself never appears: that is not a spoiler but the premise.

There is no scenery: the flat is lived in, with real neighbours behind the walls. Nora Sergeyevna’s room is one of the museum rooms. The kitchen is the communal one itself. In the writer’s room stands a green tiled stove; Elena Dovlatova recalled how, during a quarrel, he threw his manuscripts into it and she pulled them out of the fire. The stove still works. The house register remembers the Dovlatovs by name.

What to expect

01The route from the front entranceMeeting at the Dovlatov monument in front of 23 Rubinstein Street, then the entrance hall, the original 1912 staircase, the third floor, the door of apartment 34. Dovlatov came home this way from 1944 to 1975.
02You are the responsible tenantsThe chairman of the house committee hands out the role, along with the assignment: get into the flat of citizen Dovlatov. After that — talk to the neighbours and the writer’s mother, go into the rooms and help the major with the search.
03Soup in the communal kitchenTikhomirov the neighbour cooks soup in the flat’s real kitchen for the whole show. «Ours» has the line: «A pot full of mutual irritation stood on a low flame, quietly bubbling...» Here it really bubbles.
04Nora SergeyevnaShe is played by Galina Lokshina; Tikhomirov by Andrei Zhukov; the major by Alexander Savchuk, who also directs. The writer’s mother lays the table and insists that Seryozha has gone out to walk Glasha the dog and will be back any minute. Nobody plays Dovlatov.
05That very roomThe main action takes place in the room where the writer’s family lived. Few things here remember Dovlatov: a trunk, a chandelier and the stove. The door once carried Nora Sergeyevna’s sign: «A half-corpse is resting here. Keep quiet!»
06Tea and timingA small tea is included in the ticket. Route and show together take up to an hour and a half. Guests aged 12 and over.

Why go

Sold out from the first showThe premiere was played twice in one day — on 30 August 2025 at the ninth «D Day» festival, at 13:00 and 15:00: more tickets went than the room holds guests. In the autumn the show returned to the museum — on 18 and 25 October and 15 November, and the first of those dates sold out long before the evening.
Directed by Alexander Savchuk, special prizes of the «Golden Sofit» and «Proryv» awardsFounder and artistic director of the Lusores theatre, director at the Inclusion centre, curator of the «Taetr» school. More than twenty productions; nominee for the «Golden Sofit» and «Arlekin» awards. Here he is also the chairman of the house committee: he leads the group himself.
No sets. The walls are realThere is no scenery: the front entrance, the 1912 staircase, the corridor, Nora Sergeyevna’s room, the communal kitchen — all real. The main action takes place in the room where Dovlatov lived from 1944 to 1975 — by the green tiled stove into which he once threw his manuscripts.
Tea is in the ticket priceA small tea is included in the 1695 ₽. The soup in the kitchen is for the neighbour; the tea is for the guests.

What the route is made of

We meet at the Dovlatov monument in front of 23 Rubinstein Street. In the entrance hall the chairman of the house committee, Major Vladlen Alekseyevich (Alexander Savchuk), assembles a group of responsible tenants — that is you — and leads it up to the third floor, to apartment 34: to get in to citizen Dovlatov, parasite and brawler. Then come his rooms, the neighbours’ rooms, the kitchen, a conversation with the writer’s mother Nora Sergeyevna (Galina Lokshina) and with Tikhomirov the neighbour (Andrei Zhukov). On the door of the room hangs a plaque: «Apartment of Exemplary Order and High Standards of Domestic Culture». The whole group searches for Dovlatov; the tenants never get an answer about the son and leave in indignation. He never appears.

The soup in the communal kitchen is real: the neighbour cooks it throughout the show, and the «pot full of mutual irritation» from «Ours» bubbles in front of you. The house registers listing the Mechik-Dovlatov family from 1934 are kept right here — the parasite’s residence registration is confirmed on paper. The stove in the writer’s room is green and tiled: as his wife Elena recalled, Dovlatov threw his manuscripts into it during a quarrel, and she pulled them out of the fire. Behind the wall are real neighbours; their doors are closed, and that is not part of the script. Tikhomirov the neighbour also comes from the book: the young Dovlatov talked about Tolstoy and Dostoevsky at the communal telephone, and the colonel listened and shouted: «Writers like that should be shot!» Dovlatov wrote that this cry set the course of his life for years ahead.

«We decided to stage a play about Dovlatov without Dovlatov. There will be his mother, his neighbours, his room, his pursuers, his kitchen…»

Lusores theatre — premiere announcement, August 2025

Who staged it and who performs

Alexander Savchuk — director and Major Vladlen Alekseyevich. The chairman of the house committee who leads the «responsible tenants» up to the third floor. Founder and artistic director of the Lusores theatre, director at the Inclusion centre, curator of the «Taetr» school. More than twenty productions; special prizes of the «Golden Sofit» and «Proryv» awards, nominee for the «Golden Sofit» and «Arlekin». In this same flat he stages «Dovlatov’s Communal Salon».

Galina Lokshina — Nora Sergeyevna, the writer’s mother. The central figure of the show: Dovlatov is absent, his mother is here. Nora Sergeyevna Dovlatova (1908–1999), née Dovlatyan, an Armenian from Tiflis, an actress and later a proofreader. She is played by a stage and screen actress: Lusores, the Finnish Theatre, the St Petersburg University theatre; on screen since 2016 — «The Committee», «Hypocrites», «Tenderness 2». A graduate of Alexander Savchuk’s «Taetr» school.

Andrei Zhukov — Tikhomirov the neighbour. Not an invented character: the flat warden, a colonel in Dovlatov’s «The Craft» and «Ours», a real tenant of apartment 34. He cooks soup in the communal kitchen for the whole show — the pot from «Ours», a real one, on a low flame. Born in 1954 in Leningrad. Neurologist, cultural theorist, photographer, performance artist; on stage — Osobnyak theatre, Teatro Di Capua, Lusores. In film — A. German’s «Dovlatov».

You are met by the flat’s keepers: the museum is run by Ivan Eikhenbaum and partners, for whom this communal flat is not a set but a place they look after every day.

Enquiries

Frequently asked questions

Do guests really take part?
Yes. The guests are those very responsible tenants whom the house committee chairman leads into apartment 34; without them there is no one to enter the premises. Taking part means going with the group, watching and answering if asked. You can also stay silent: tenants come in all kinds.
What does the ticket include?
A promenade play from the entrance hall to apartment 34 — the writer’s rooms, Nora Sergeyevna’s room, the communal kitchen — and a short tea. One price for everyone — 1695 ₽; the tea is included, there is nothing extra to pay on the spot.
Do I need to have read «Ours» to come?
No. The play is based on «Ours» and the memoirs of family and friends, but it makes sense without any preparation. Those who have read it will recognise the saucepan.
Where do we meet?
At the Dovlatov monument in front of 23 Rubinstein Street — this is the meeting point; the play begins in the entrance hall. The meeting time is on the ticket; the group goes up to the third floor together.
How long does it last?
Up to an hour and a half. We gather at the Dovlatov monument at the appointed time; we wait a few minutes for anyone who is running late, then the whole group goes upstairs — there is no way to join once we are in the flat.
What are the restrictions in the flat?
The flat is lived in and communal. There is no toilet for guests: it is in the residential part, to which the museum has no access, and the regulations do not allow a separate one to be fitted in a listed building — best to plan for this at home. The «neighbours’ rooms» in the play are the museum’s; the real residents’ rooms are closed — people live behind those doors.
Is the staircase steep?
Not too steep, but you will have to climb on foot: the building is from 1912, the staircase is original, the flat is on the third floor, and the climb is part of the route. There is a lift in the entrance hall, but the thresholds and narrow doorways are still there. If stairs are hard for you, write to us in advance — we will suggest the easiest way.
Can I take photos?
At the monument and after the play — yes. Along the route — no: the rooms are cramped, the actors are a step away from you, and a phone in your hand gets in everyone’s way, including your own.
Is it suitable for children?
Rated 12+. The play rests on conversations — with the writer’s mother, with the neighbour, with the house committee chairman; a teenager who knows Dovlatov will have something to listen to, younger children hardly. If in doubt, write to us — we will advise.
How do I give a visit as a gift?
Write to hello@dovlatovmuseum.ru or call +7 931 109-12-35 — we will book the visit in the name of the person you are giving it to, agree a date and send a confirmation. There is also the gift certificate «A Telegram Invitation» — a summons in their name, ready within the day.
Can I book a private performance?
Yes, it is a separate format. A private evening, a gathering of friends, a corporate event: the museum closes for your group, and only your tenants go looking for Dovlatov. Up to 23 guests, date and time by arrangement. Write to hello@dovlatovmuseum.ru — we reply the same day.
How do I pay for a ticket?
A booking is secured by prepayment when you book on the website: 20 % — 339 ₽ per person, with the rest paid at the meeting point; you can also pay in full or in instalments via Yandex Split. The ticket arrives by email, and your place is secured at once. Cancel 24 hours before the start and we refund the prepayment in full — guaranteed.
Press

The play and the flat in the city press

A play in a lived-in communal flat gets written about before it opens: Metro covered the production two days before the premiere. Kommersant shot a photo report at the premiere performance at «D Day» 2025, and the city’s TV channels aired stories from these rooms. Below — a selection of publications on theatre in apartment 34.

For your group only

«Catch Dovlatov» as a private performance

A corporate event, a private evening, a gathering of friends. The museum closes for your group of up to 23 guests, and the chairman of the house committee leads only your tenants into apartment 34 — the same actors, the same staircase, the same kitchen with the soup. Date and time by arrangement, tea included; we reply the same day.

Up to 23 guests. The date and time are yours

The same actors, the same writer’s room, the same neighbours behind the wall — and not a single stranger in the audience. Tea with Leningrad sweets is included. Almost any day and hour by arrangement: a morning before opening, an evening after closing. The price is for the whole room, not per guest: details on the page for companies. We reply the same day.
